Pongo
The horse of many spots – and many names! Prior to his life at The Luci Center, this Leopard Appaloosa was known as Snickerdoodle and Cochese. Pongo was ‘spotted’ by Lynn Pope, The former Luci Program Manager and Instructor, who just knew he’d be an excellent therapy horse. He was purchased by another Luci Center volunteer and donated to the program in 2001.
When Pongo first arrived at The Luci Center he was unsure of his role and tended to be herd-bound – he didn’t like to leave his buddies in the pasture. He has since learned his job well – his spots make him visually stimulating and a favorite for our young clients. He’s a playful and social horse who is friendly to everyone. His upright and lively gait provides a means to improve the muscle tone of those clients for whom that is an issue.
