Pete

Pete was The Luci Center’s resident Gentle Giant. Standing at a true 18 hands tall this Clydesdale just didn't realize how big he was! Pete came to The Luci Center from a Paris, KY farmer who was liquidating his Clydesdale herd. Somewhat conformationally flawed, Pete’s worth in a sale was minimal so he faced the slaughterhouse. Luckily, instead he was donated to The Luci Center and had a second career as a therapy horse.

Due to his size, Pete provided a special service to those clients for whom it is not possible to ride. Pete allowed us the potential to offer a driving for the disabled program – the client sat in an adapted carriage pulled by the ever-accomodating Pete. Clients with severe spinal curvature, transitioning from a stroke, amputation or those who are simply not emotionally ready to mount a horse recieved the benefit of an equine therapy program, learning the skills necessary to drive a carriage with Pete pulling all the weight.
