Colorado Sky
At 27 years-old, Sky was the grand old gentleman of The Luci Center. A dark bay thoroughbred (by Mr. Crozy out of Skyology), he was adopted when he was a two year-old from Arapaho Park, a Colorado racetrack by a young girl learning to ride dressage. Sky had some health problems over the years but was a great dressage horse for that young girl all the way through college. In 1997, when he could no longer show, his owner answered an ad in a Colorado paper (Colorado was the original home of the Luci Center) looking for horses to be donated to a therapeutic riding program.
Sky joined the Luci Center in 1997 and quickly adapted to his new career. More than any other horse at the center, it was clear by his demeanor that Sky knew the difference between a disabled and an able-bodied rider. In old age, Sky could no longer bear the weight of a rider but continued to serve as clients of all ages learned to groom and care for a horse as part of their therapy program.
