Exciting News from The Luci Center:
The Luci Center is a therapeutic horseback riding program in Shelbyville, Kentucky, which since 1995 has been connecting specially-challenged children and adults with gentle, well-trained horses. Our continuity and success have been the result of hardworking staff, enthusiastic volunteers, committed riders and their families, board members, wonderfully kind horses, well-attended fund raisers and generous, caring donors. And we are tremendously grateful to each and every one.
After 17 years of growth, we are pleased to announce that in 2012, we will broaden our scope of impact by offering grant opportunities to individuals and organizations whose focus is to strengthen the relationship between horses and humans. From now on, every donation made to The Luci Center will do double duty by supporting the current riding program and by providing funding for those entities that meet our described mission of enriching the lives of people with special needs through horse-related activities.
The keys to a safe and effective therapeutic riding program are professionalism and education within the human and equine relationship. And the Luci Center is pleased to announce that the recipient of our first grant, Ms. Megan Bereskin, exemplifies those standards. Megan has been involved in therapeutic riding since the age of 12, when she began volunteering at a program near her home in Iowa. Like many young girls, she possessed a love for equines and began by training horses and competing in three-day eventing. A Certified Horsemanship Association instructor, Megan is a member of PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) and is a 2009 graduate of the University of Louisville with a degree in communications. This dedicated horseman brings experience and commitment to both the human and equine world, and we are pleased to assist her in achieving her dream of becoming a nationally certified therapeutic riding instructor in cognitive and physical disabilities.
